If you liked the miniseries, try watching some of the episodes from Season 1. The consequences of Adama's lie (that he knows where Earth is) become apparent by the end of the last episode.

Also, it's worth pointing out that the original Battlestar Galactica was steeped in Mormon theology. Some traces of this remain in the revisioning. Most notably the twelve colonies representing the twelve tribes of Isreal, with Earth as the lost tribe. The Quorum of Twelve that governs the colonies is similar to the Mormon Quorum of Twelve. Etc.

I have not followed the series but I did see the 3 hour movie. I was very impressed with how much more real, gritty and nuanced this new series is compared to the original series. You present a great example of why this series is intersting. I thought another example of the moral dilemnias was when the surviving ships were first gathering some of the ships were incapable of jumping to light speed so the acting President was forced to make a decision of whether to stick together and risk the total annihilation of humanity or leave the slower space ships behind to meet their doom. It was heart wrenching especially seeing the little girl on the greenhouse ship, taken from the original series, that was not able to escape.
